The Number of the BeastThe number of the beast is 666. According to Scripture "let him that hath understanding count the number." Let us pray for understanding and count this number. First, "it is the number of a man." This means two things: it is a human number (meaning that we can understand what it is), and, it numbers a particular man. A certain man can be shown to have the number. Since we know that the beast is symbolic of the Roman Catholic Church, it follows that we look within that system to find the man who would bear the "number of the beast." Because we are looking for a man within the Catholic Church, it follows that we should look to the head of that church to be the representative, and so, the head of the beast. It makes sense that the head of the church, or Pope, would be the man who bears the "number of the beast." Does the Pope bear the number 666? Let us look and we will see. It is interesting to notice that the Douay Version of the Bible (the official Catholic version) has the following comment on Revelation 13:18: "The numeral letters of his name shall make up this number." We have only to look to the blasphemous title assumed by the Pope to find the number. The title of the Pope, worn on his Triple Crown, is "Vicarius Filii Dei", which is "Vicegerent of the Son of God." This means that the Pope claims to be co-ruler with Christ on earth. We will now number that name. Since the title is in Latin, we will use the Roman number values to find the number of the name:
Some of the variations of this title in translation are: Vicar of Christ, Vicar of Jesus Christ, and Vicar of God. All of these are blasphemy. In both Greek and Hebrew other similar titles add up to 666:
The plot thickens even more when we see that adding together all and only the original Roman numerals which had numeric values gives a Roman alphabet the value of which is itself 666: I = 1 V = 5 X = 10 L = 50 C = 100 D = 500 -------------- 666
The letter M was not in the original system; it was added later. The sort of "letter-addition" we are here performing is not some strange or ad hoc notion. The Roman pagans themselves had a custom of adding the value of their names according to the value of the letters of their own alphabet. As their languages were different, so were the values of particular letters. Yet, the pagans universally held high regard for the magic of the number 6. In addition, the number 666 was considered a very powerful magic number and appears on ancient occultist medallions, worn by priests of the secret orders. The number 666 has always been considered very sacred by occultists and astrologers. The New Testament was originally written in Greek. An ancient Greek name for Satan was "TEITAN." The Greek values for the letters in that name also add up to 666. So we see that the number 666 has origins deep in the founding of pagan idolatry and occultism. We also see that the pagans had a penchant for assuming titles that would add up to sacred numbers in their languages. This leads us to understand how the Roman Catholic Church, which is pagan in its forms of worship, has given their head a title that adds up to a sacred occult number: 666. Thus, the Pope does bear the "number of a man," namely the number of the Beast. |
